Salvy, Vargas named to All-Star team

KANSAS CITY -- Royals catcher Salvador Perez and left-hander Jason Vargas both were selected to the 2017 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard in Miami on July 11.
Vargas, who started his career with the Marlins, will be making his first All-Star Game appearance. He is 12-3 with a 2.22 ERA.

"It's a nice coincidence that it's in Miami," Vargas said. "It would have been nice anywhere. Getting recognized among the best players in the game is special. I'd be foolish to say I didn't think about this."
Vargas, if he starts the game, can't wait to have his batterymate, Perez, to pitch to.
"That would be icing on the cake," Vargas said.

Perez will be making his fifth straight All-Star appearance.
"Every one is special," Perez said. "Every All-Star Game … every player wants to go. We're going to enjoy and have fun. And that's pretty good to have [Vargas] go."
Perez is hitting .290 with 16 home runs and 51 RBIs.
