returned to Kansas City's lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, a day after the Royals captain took exception to getting Saturday's game off for what manager Matt Quatraro called a "mental breather."

Perez tweeted, "I don't need a mental breather" on Saturday night, after the Royals fell, 13-4, to the Yankees to extend their losing streak to six games.

Perez was batting fourth as the DH on Sunday. The nine-time All-Star has gotten off to a slow start this year, with a .160/.210/.307 slash line, three home runs and just six RBIs in 20 games.

“Just looking at the way things have gone, he’s played in every game,” Quatraro said on Saturday about giving Perez the day off. “Day game after night game, Carter [Jensen] was going to catch today. And Salvy’s been struggling a little bit. Just try to give him a little mental breather.”
