Players of the Week: Ohtani, Albies

Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and Braves All-Star second baseman Ozzie Albies have been named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet.

For Ohtani, it’s his second American League Player of the Week Award in the past three weeks and the fourth of his career. Ohtani hit six homers and recorded a 1.543 OPS with eight RBIs in six games last week, helping the Angels go 5-1.

On Sunday, Ohtani became the first player to make the All-Star team as both a position player and pitcher. He was elected by the fans as the starting designated hitter for the AL and selected by the players as a pitcher. Ohtani leads the Majors with 31 homers and has posted a 177 OPS+ on the year. He also has a 128 ERA+ with 83 K’s in 60 innings on the mound.

Albies earns National League Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career on the heels of a week in which he hit .400 with three homers, 13 RBIs and a 1.167 OPS in six games. On Wednesday, he went 5-for-6 with two homers and seven RBIs in the Braves’ 20-2 win over the Mets.

The 24-year-old was named to the NL All-Star team for the second time on Sunday.
