Here is what you need to know about this matchup.
Rangers at Angels, 7:20 p.m. ET on Peacock and NBCSN
Sunday marks the end of what has been a rough road trip for the Rangers. Not only has Texas gone 3-5, including losses in the first two games of its series against the Angels, but it also lost shortstop Corey Seager to the IL due to lower back inflammation on May 18 and saw third baseman Josh Jung exit with a left shoulder injury Saturday. Two other members of the Rangers' Opening Day lineup, Wyatt Langford and Josh Smith, are sidelined as well, which means the club will continue to lean on Brandon Nimmo (.791 OPS in 2026), Jake Burger (3 HR, 1.243 OPS since May 12) and Justin Foscue (.928 OPS since May 5 callup) to propel their offense.
MacKenzie Gore, meanwhile, is slated to take the mound Sunday after exiting his previous start with left lat tightness prior to the bottom of the second inning. Acquired from the Nationals in an offseason trade, Gore has continued to battle inconsistency with the Rangers, posting a 4.78 ERA over 10 starts this season.
Gore will try to slow down an Angels offense that has scored 14 runs over the first two games of this series behind big performances from Zach Neto (4-for-7, 2 HR), Mike Trout (3-for-8, 1 HR) and Oswald Peraza (4-for-7, 1 HR). Trout has been resurgent this season with 13 homers, an .896 OPS and a 155 OPS+.
The Angels will give the ball to left-hander Reid Detmers, who allowed eight runs over 5 2/3 innings to the A's his last time out. Detmers has a 5.07 ERA on the year, though his xERA is much more palatable at 3.22.
