Twins add corner infield depth with signings

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins added to their corner infield depth on Wednesday, signing first baseman/third baseman Matt Hague to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training. They also re-signed first baseman/outfielder Reynaldo Rodriguez to a Minor League deal.
Hague, the 2015 International League MVP while in the Blue Jays' organization, is coming back after a one-year stint with Japan's Hanshin Tigers. He hit .231/.339/.346 with two homers, six doubles and 11 RBIs in 31 games in Japan.

He was impressive at Triple-A Buffalo in 2015, hitting .338/.416/.468 with 11 homers, 33 doubles and 92 RBIs in 136 games. He also played 10 games with the Blue Jays that year, batting .250 with a double and two walks
The 31-year-old has played in parts of three big league seasons with the Pirates and Blue Jays, hitting .226/.286/.262 with three doubles and seven RBIs in 43 games. He's a career .302/.377/.433 hitter in five seasons at Triple-A.

Rodriguez, meanwhile, was Triple-A Rochester's MVP in 2015, but he served an 80-game suspension last season for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Rodriguez hit .220/.304/.329 with four homers in 50 games with the Red Wings. He fared much better in '15, when he batted .255/.307/.446 with 16 homers, 34 doubles and 80 RBIs in 132 games.
