Plate umpire Danley exits Mets-Rockies game

DENVER -- Home-plate umpire and crew chief Kerwin Danley left the Mets' 10-5 win over the Rockies on Wednesday night in the fourth inning when a pitch from Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood hit him on the left arm.
Chatwood, pitching with a 5-0 lead, threw a 2-1 pitch to the Mets' Michael Conforto that bounced well before the plate and went over the right shoulder of catcher Ryan Hanigan.
There was no official announcement on Danley's injury, but he told the New York Daily News that he suffered a broken finger.
Danley was tended to briefly on the field before leaving. Lance Barrett took over for Danley behind the plate after a delay of just less than 13 minutes.
This marked the sixth time -- and second this year -- that Danley has had to leave a game because of injury.
In 2008, Danley was knocked unconscious when a fastball from the Dodgers' Brad Penny eluded catcher Russell Martin and hit him in the jaw. He left a 2009 game when struck in the head by a piece of a broken bat, suffered a concussion in 2013, left after being hit by a foul ball in 2015 and was struck in the mask by a foul ball during a Royals-Dodgers game this season on July 9.
