TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees catcher Austin Romine was forced to exit in the seventh inning of Wednesday night's 3-1 victory over the Phillies after being struck on the right thumb with a wild pitch.
The club said that X-rays taken at an area hospital were negative.
Romine was clipped by an errant offering with right-hander Chad Green on the mound. Kyle Higashioka replaced Romine behind the plate.
Higashioka and Romine are competing to serve as the backup to Gary Sánchez this season. Romine is having a solid spring at the plate (8-for-25, .320), as is Higashioka (6-for-14, .429).
