Yankees inquire about Stanton's availability

The Yankees have checked in with the Marlins regarding the availability of slugger Giancarlo Stanton, according to a report Saturday from MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman.
It is not clear how serious the Yankees are about trading for Stanton, and the report said the talks with the Marlins likely did not go much further beyond an initial phone call sometime in the last few weeks. The Yankees are not said to be having ongoing discussions with the Marlins regarding Stanton, one of baseball's most powerful sluggers.
Stanton, 27, is in the third season of a 13-year, $325 million contract. The outfielder is set to earn $295 million after this year, though his deal includes an opt-out after the 2020 season.
The Yankees already have a budding superstar in right field in Aaron Judge and they have another talented outfield prospect in Clint Frazier. So it's not clear how Stanton fits into the picture.
The Marlins have not publicly stated that Stanton is on the trade market. However, he has been linked to a number of teams including the Cardinals, Giants and Phillies. Stanton has a full no-trade clause.
Stanton leads the National League with 30 homers, one shy of Judge's 31 for the most in the Majors.
