Two young fans hug it out after heartwarming act of kindness

DENVER -- We’ve seen many heartwarming examples of adults who get a foul ball or a home run ball during a Major League game and promptly find a youngster to give it to. That type of generosity is an example of the many great ways that fans -- not only players -- give us reasons to cheer.
But how about a kid presenting a baseball to another kid?
That’s what we saw at Coors Field on Wednesday afternoon, when left fielder Jake McCarthy tossed a ball to a young fan named Max in the bleachers during the Rockies’ series finale against the Orioles. As soon as Max caught McCarthy’s toss, he immediately handed it to a younger fan next to him.
The moment was reminiscent of another touching scene in which a young boy caught a ball from outfielder Jake Mangum during a Pirates-Rays game and then handed it to a little girl next to him
“You know, I just caught it, and I have a kid that ran up to me,” Max said in an interview on the Rockies’ telecast. “I was like, ‘If I have a ball and he doesn’t, he deserves it. Like if I already have one and this kid is asking me for it, there’s no shot that I’m not gonna give this kid the ball -- he deserved all of it.”
Wow, what a sentiment that Max shared about why he instantly gave that baseball to the 10-year-old fan next to him. And, needless to say, that fan was grateful and gave Max a hug.
As baseball, with all of its wonderful qualities, often prompts us to say: That’s what it’s all about.
