Baseball can break your heart, but it can melt it, too. We got proof of the latter Sunday in Pittsburgh.
At one point between innings during the Rays-Pirates tilt, Pittsburgh outfielder Jake Mangum tossed a ball to a young boy in the stands. Most kids -- heck, most people -- would be overjoyed to receive such a cool keepsake and would immediately show it off or store it for safe keeping. Not this kid.
Without any hesitation, the boy gave the ball to a young girl wearing a Mangum jersey. The girl -- perhaps his younger sister or maybe just a friend -- then wrapped her arms around him in a moment of pure joy and thankfulness.
It was a heartwarming moment that showed the emotions of baseball aren't always limited to what happens on the field.
