2O19 Houston Astros MLB Draft information

HOUSTON'S DRAFT RESULTS: The Astros selected 40 players in the three-day 2019 MLB Draft, including 30 today in rounds 11-40. Houston ended up taking a total of 18 right-handed pitchers, three left-handed pitchers, four catchers, eight infielders and seven outfielders. Of the 40 total selections, 35 came out of the collegiate ranks and five from high school.

TODAY’S TREND: The Astros began Day 3 of the draft today with a run on right-handed college pitchers, as 10 of their first 12 selections today fit that category. They finished their day selecting 18 pitchers, seven infielders, three outfielders and two catchers.

HIGH SCHOOL RANKS: The Astros picked two high school players in the first 35 rounds: OF Colin Barber from Pleasant Valley HS in the fourth round and RHP Justin Campbell from Simi Valley HS in the 18th round. They finished their day by selecting three HS players with their last five picks.

TEXAS PIPELINE: The Astros took seven players out of the state of Texas, a group that includes RHP Blair Henley (7th, Texas), RHP Garrett Gayle (12th, Rice), RHP Alex Palmer (20th, SFA), RHP Chandler Casey (26th, Lubbock Christian), IF Bryan Arias (28th, UTSA), 3B Max Dias (37th, Porter HS) and SS J.C. Correa (38th, Lamar).

STILL DANCING: A number of Astros draft picks are set to begin NCAA Super Regional play this weekend, including SS Grae Kessinger (2nd, Ole Miss), OF Jordan Brewer (3rd, Michigan), RHP Peyton Battenfield (9th, OSU) and RHP Peyton Plumlee (31st, MSU).

ALL IN THE FAMILY: The Astros made three selections with family ties in the draft. C C.J. Stubbs, brother of Astros catcher Garrett Stubbs, was selected in the 10th round yesterday. In the 37th round today, the Astros took Porter High School’s 3B Max Dias, who’s the son of Astros Vice President of Communications Gene Dias. In the 38th round, the Astros selected Lamar University’s SS J.C. Correa, brother of SS Carlos Correa. The Astros also selected J.C. in the 33rd round last year.
