Blue Jays acquire Yangervis Solarte

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired infielder YANGERVIS SOLARTE from the San Diego Padres in exchange for minor league players, outfielder Edward Olivares and right-handed pitcher Jared Carkuff.
SOLARTE, 30, appeared in 128 games for San Diego last season posting a .255 batting average with 21 doubles, 18 home runs and 64 RBI while posting a .731 OPS. The 5-11, 205 lb. switch hitter made 79 appearances at second base, 28 at shortstop, 22 at third base, eight at first base and two games as a designated hitter. The Valencia, Venezuela native has a career batting average of .267 with 99 doubles, six triples, 57 home runs and an OPS of .746.   Solarte has posted a .272 batting average as a left-handed batter with 46 home runs and a .766 OPS while batting .255 with 11 home runs and a .693 OPS as a right-handed batter.
