Nationals recall outfielder Alex Call

The Washington Nationals recalled outfielder Alex Call from Triple-A Rochester and placed first baseman/designated hitter Joey Gallo on the 10-day Injured List with a left shoulder AC sprain on Saturday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Call, 29, joins the Nationals for the first time this season after clubbing six home runs – tied for the most in Washington’s system – and ranking third in the organization with 17 RBI in 19 games with Triple-A Rochester. Call hit .216 with two doubles, six home runs, 17 RBI, nine walks, three stolen bases and 12 runs scored prior to being called up.

Call hit three of his six home runs in the last week, going 6-for-19 (.316) with a double, three homers, eight RBI and four walks in five games.

Gallo, 30, hit .122 with five doubles, three homers, five RBI, 15 walks and eight runs scored in 23 games for the Nationals this season.
