Catcher Chris Herrmann claimed off waivers by Houston

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced Friday the following roster move:
·         Chris Herrmann, C, claimed off waivers by Houston.
Seattle's 40-man roster is now at 32 players.
Herrmann, 30 (turns 31 on Nov. 27), hit .237 (18x76) with 6 runs, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 10 walks and 7 RBI in 36 games with the Mariners in 2018. The 6-foot, 200-pound catcher signed with Seattle as a minor league free agent on April 5 after being designated for assignment by Arizona on March 25 and released on March 28. He was selected by Seattle from AAA Tacoma on May 27 and appeared in 2 stints with the club last season: May 27-30 and June 18 - end of season. He was on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right oblique, May 30 (retro to 5/28)-June 18, including 5 games on a rehab assignment with Tacoma. Prior to his selection on May 27, Herrmann hit .266 (33x124) with 24 runs, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 22 RBI and 34 walks in 37 games with the Rainiers.
Herrmann is a 7-year Major League veteran with Minnesota (2012-15), Arizona (2016-17) and Seattle (2018). He was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 10th round of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Drafter out of Alvin Community (TX) College. He appeared in 7 games with the Twins in 2012, including making his Major League debut on Sept. 16 vs. the White Sox (0x1). In parts of 7 Major League seasons, he is batting .205 (165x803) with 99 runs scored, 31 doubles, 7 triples, 24 home runs and 95 RBI in 340 career games.
