Dennis Sheehan named NY Professional Baseball Hot Stove League Scout of Year

Arizona Diamondbacks area scout Dennis Sheehan will be named the New York Professional Baseball Hot Stove League's 2017 Scout of the Year at the league's 53rd annual awards dinner tonight in Great Neck, N.Y.
Sheehan is in his third season with the D-backs' amateur scouting department, covering New York. In the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, he was responsible for signing RHP Matt Tabor, the club's third-round selection, as well as OF William Gorman (32nd) and OF Dan Swain (34th). He also signed 3 picks in 2016, including C Andy Yerzy (second), RHP Connor Grey (20th) and C Luke Van Rycheghem (23rd).
Before joining the D-backs in 2016, Sheehan spent the previous 17 seasons as the Northeast Scouting Supervisor with the Atlanta Braves (2013-15), Kansas City Royals (2006-13), Detroit Tigers (2004-06) and Florida Marlins (1998-2002). Prior to scouting, he was the head coach at Ulster County (N.Y.) Community College, where he was a 6-time NJCAA Coach of the Year, and led his team to the 1996 Junior College World Series. He was inducted into the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
He and his wife, Kathy, reside in Glasco, N.Y. They have 2 children, Joseph and Lizabeth.
