Dodgers recall pitcher Pat Venditte

The Los Angeles Dodgers today selected the contract of ambidextrous pitcher Pat Venditte (#43) from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart to the OKC Dodgers.
Venditte, 32, made 15 relief appearances with the OKC Dodger this season, going 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA (3 ER/17.2 IP) and limiting the opposition to .167 average. He also struck out 19 batters against six walks in 17.2 innings and posted a 0.91 WHIP. The switch-pitcher was a non-roster invitee in this year's camp with the Dodgers and appeared in 10 Cactus League games, allowing just two runs over 11.1 innings of relief (1.59 ERA) and striking out 14 against just three walks, while holding hitters to a .167 average.
The Omaha, Nebraska, native is in his 11th professional season and his first year with the Dodgers after spending the past year with the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He spent the entire 2017 campaign with the Phillies' Triple-A Lehigh Valley, going 9-5 with two saves and posting a 3.36 ERA (26 ER/69.2 IP) in 52 relief appearances. Venditte has appeared in 41 career big league games over two seasons with the Athletics (2015), Blue Jays (2016) and Mariners (2016), going 2-2 with a 4.97 ERA and striking out 42 batters against 23 walks in 50.2 innings. He has held big league hitters to a .241 career average, including limiting left-handed batters to a .185 mark. Following his Major League debut on June 5, 2015, he became the first ambidextrous player to play in the big leagues since Greg Harris on September 28, 1995.
Venditte was originally selected by the Yankees in the 20th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Creighton University.
Stewart, 26, pitched in last night's contest against the Reds, allowing just one run on one hit with two strikeouts over 3.0 relief innings. In three games this season with Los Angeles, he has posted a 3.18 ERA (2 ER/5.2 IP) and has held the opposition to a .238 average.
In order to create room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred shortstop Corey Seager to the 60-day disabled list (right UCL surgery).
