Dodgers Sign Jonathan Hernández

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers signed right-handed pitcher Jonathan Hernández and optioned right-handed pitcher Chayce McDermott. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius to the 60-day injured list.

Hernández, 29, joins the Dodgers after making 13 appearances for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He was 1-0 with an 4.80 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 15 innings. He has been in the Major Leagues parts of five seasons with the Texas Rangers (2019-24) and Seattle Mariners (2024), going 13-8 with a 4.29 ERA and 150 strikeouts in 153 innings. He was signed on January 30, 2013 by the Texas Rangers as a minor league free agent.

McDermott, 27, pitched a scoreless inning yesterday against the Angels with one strikeout. He is now 0-1 with an 11.85 ERA in six Major League games (two starts) and 13 strikeouts in 13.2 innings. In 121 minor league appearances, he is 22-25 with a 4.38 ERA and 584 strikeouts in 417.1 innings. He was drafted by the Houston Astros with 132nd pick in the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of Ball State University.
