Mariners turn ahead the clock to 2027

The Seattle Mariners go back to the future on Saturday, June 30, when the Kansas City Royals come to Safeco Field for Turn Ahead the Clock Night. Game time is 7:10 p.m.

The first 20,000 fans through the gates will receive a replica of the futuristic cap that Mariners players will wear on the field that night, courtesy of Alaska Airlines.

King's Court
With Felix Hernández scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the game, there will be a Turn Ahead the Clock Night King's Court. Tickets are $30 each and come with a special maroon and silver King's Court T-shirt and placard, available online only at Mariners.com/Felix.

Turn Ahead the Clock
This season is the 20th anniversary of the original Turn Ahead the Clock Night event staged on July 18, 1998, against the Royals. The Kingdome became the Biodome. Marty the Mariner Martian was the mascot for the night, and the Mercury Fire, Saturn Rings and Pluto Mighty Pups joined Major League Baseball's intergalactic league. The Mariners wore sleeveless maroon and silver jerseys, which Ken Griffey Jr. helped design, and the Royals sported bright gold with royal blue sleeves. James Doohan, "Scotty" from Star Trek, threw out the first pitch.

The event proved so popular that in 1999, 20 Major League Baseball teams staged Turn Ahead the Clock games.

June 30, 2027
On Saturday, June 30, Safeco Field will be transported to 2027, which will be the Mariners 50th Anniversary, and the game will feature predictions of events that might take place nine-years hence. Highlights include:

•   "Throbot 3000" will deliver the game ball to the pitcher's mound and will assist the grounds crew (the Quad Squad) with field preparations.

•   Teleporting in from the Starship Enterprise to perform the national anthem is Mr. Spock's long-lost singing cousin, Michael Spock-oly. (Michael Sicoly, IRL.)

•   Instead of hydro races there will be a Galactic Space Race and the hidden ball Hat Trick will feature the Turn Ahead the Clock cap.

•   We'll once again check scores from around the league, including the interplanetary expansion Neptune Kings.

•   Dan "The Bionic Man" Wilson and Aaron AU(gold)smith on the ROOT SPORTS TV broadcast, will join the fun in futuristic attire.
Deal of the Day
On Saturday, the Deal of the Day concessions special at Safeco Field will include the Future Frank, a re-imagined hot dog, for $6. Future Franks will be available Saturday only at all Rolling Roof Refreshment stands (Sec. 109, 118, 126, 141, 190, 222, 244, 319, 329 and 347).
