Medal of Honor recipient James McCloughan to throw out first pitch before ASG
Medal of Honor recipient James McCloughan will throw the Ceremonial First Pitch of the 2018 MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard on Tuesday, July 17 at Nationals Park in Washington, DC. McCloughan will be part of the 30 Medal of Honor recipients recognized on the field prior to the game. The FOX Pre-Game Show begins at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.
Following his tour of duty in Vietnam as a combat medic from March 1969 to March 1970, McCloughan returned to his teaching and coaching profession in South Haven, Michigan. McCloughan spent 38 years as a baseball coach and won numerous accolades including induction into the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2003.
McCloughan was a four-sport varsity athlete at Bangor High School and went on to play baseball, football and wrestle at Olivet College, where he also graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and a teaching certificate. After his tour, he earned a Master of Arts in counseling and psychology from Western Michigan University.
