D-backs agree to terms with first-round pick Jordan Lawlar

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to terms with first-round pick SS Jordan Lawlar, the No. 6 overall selection in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. The D-backs have signed their first 12 picks (1-2, CBB, 3-11) and 17 of 21 picks overall.

• Tabbed by Baseball America as the Best Athlete (hitter) and Best Pure Hitter among all draft-eligible high schoolers…also is No. 2 on the Fastest Baserunner and Best Defensive Infielder list and No. 3 on Closest to the Majors and Best Infield Arm.

• Hit .412 with 5 doubles, 4 triples, 6 home runs, 37 RBI and 32 stolen bases (in 32 attempts) in 2021…walked 27 times with only 17 strikeouts.

• Named the 2020 Perfect Game Jackie Robinson Player of the Year.

• Gatorade Texas Player of the Year for 2021.

• Had committed to play baseball at Vanderbilt University.
