Dodgers re-sign Clayton Kershaw

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have re-signed three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw to a one-year contract through the 2022 season.

Kershaw, 33, made 22 starts for the Dodgers last season, going 10-8 with a 3.55 ERA (48 ER/121.2 IP) and 144 strikeouts against 21 walks. It was the 10th time in his Major League career that he has finished the season with double digit wins and on September 25th, he passed David Cone for 26th all-time on the Major League strikeout list. Among active players, he is ranked fourth in strikeouts, trailing only Max Scherzer (3020), Justin Verlander (3,013) and Zack Greinke (2,809).

The 2014 National League Most Valuable Player completed his 14th big league season with the Dodgers (2008-21) and he is 185-84 with a 2.49 ERA (679 ER/2454. IP) and 2670 strikeouts against 606 walks. Since 1920, the live-ball era, Kershaw’s 2.49 ERA and 1.00 WHIP rank first in the Majors among pitchers with at least 2,000 innings, while his batting average against is third all-time (.209), trailing only Nolan Ryan and Sandy Koufax.

He currently ranks amongst the franchise leaders in various categories, including strikeouts (2nd), wins (4th), innings pitched (4th), and games started (3rd, 376). Kershaw was originally selected by Los Angeles in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Highland Park High School (TX).
