Frank Schwindel of the Chicago Cubs named the National League Rookie of the Month for August; Bobby Dalbec of the Boston Red Sox named the American League Rookie of the Month for August

First baseman Frank Schwindel of the Chicago Cubs has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for August, and first baseman Bobby Dalbec of the Boston Red Sox has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for August. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Schwindel earned his first career monthly award and is the Cubs’ second Rookie of the Month recipient of the 2021 season, following Patrick Wisdom in June. The Cubs are the first Major League Club to have multiple different Rookie of the Month winners since Gleyber Torres (May) and Miguel Andújar (June) of the New York Yankees in 2018. Dalbec similarly claimed his first monthly honor and is Boston’s first winner since Michael Chavis in May 2019.

• Batted .344 (33-for-96) with 16 runs scored, eight doubles, a triple, six home runs, 18 RBI and a .635 slugging percentage over 26 games played.

• Logged an extra-base hit in seven consecutive games from August 12th-18th, becoming the first Cubs right-handed hitter to accomplish the feat since Aramis Ramirez in July 2009.

• Tallied at least one hit in 15-of-16 games from August 3rd-18th, slashing .397/.435/.741 during the torrid stretch.

• Clubbed three round-trippers across four games from August 12th-15th, which included homering in back-to-back games for the first time in his career from August 12th-13th.

• Posted a slash line of .339/.431/.774 with 12 runs scored, 21 hits, four doubles, a triples, seven home runs and 21 RBI across 24 games.

• Batted 3-for-4 with two home runs and a career-best seven RBI on August 26th against the Minnesota Twins. Became the sixth player in history to log at least two homers and seven RBI in a game as the No. 9 hitter, and the first since Jackie Bradley Jr. turned the trick for the Red Sox in August 2015.

• During a prolific four-game stretch at the plate from August 8th-14th, tallied five runs

scored, nine hits, six extra-base hits and 12 RBI.

• Became the seventh player in Red Sox lore to club 25 career home runs in 130 games-or-fewer.

Others receiving votes for NL Rookie of the Month second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. (.253, 12 R, 19 H, 5 SB) and outfielder Bryan De La Cruz (.384, 33 H, 7 XBH, 8 RBI) of the Miami Marlins; July’s winner Jonathan India (.243, 22 R, 8 2B, 7 HR) and starting pitcher Vladimir Gutierrez (4-2, 2.80 ERA, 35.0 IP, 33 SO) of the Cincinnati Reds; relief pitcher David Bednar (10 G, 0.71 ERA, 12.2 IP, 13 SO) of the Pittsburgh Pirates; outfielder Edmundo Sosa (.364, 11 R, 20 H, 3 3B) of the St. Louis Cardinals; outfielder/first baseman Connor Joe (.284, 15 R, 25 H, 20 RBI) of the Colorado Rockies; pitcher Tyler Gilbert (7 G, 2.93 ERA, 27.2 IP, 20 SO) of the Arizona Diamondbacks; and pitcher Aaron Ashby (4 G, 13.0 IP, 13 SO, 2 BB) of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Others receiving votes for AL Rookie of the Month included June’s winner Ryan Mountcastle (.357, 6 2B, 8 HR, 16 RBI) of the Baltimore Orioles; starting pitcher Triston McKenzie (2-1, 1.93 ERA, 28 SO, 2 BB) of the Cleveland Indians; shortstop Wander Franco (.313, 26 R, 11 XBH, 19 RBI), pitcher Shane McClanahan (5-0, 2.76 ERA, 29.1 IP, 33 SO) and outfielder Randy Arozarena (.362, 15 R, 10 XBH, 11 RBI) of the Tampa Bay Rays; starting pitcher Daniel Lynch (3-0, 2.39 ERA, 26.1 IP, 27 SO) of the Kansas City Royals; and starter Luis Garcia (3-1, 3.34 ERA, 32.1 IP, 36 SO) of the Houston Astros.
