Giants agree to one-year contract with IF Luis Arráez

SCOTTSDALE – The Giants and infielder Luis Arráez have agreed to terms on a one-year Major League contract.

Arráez, 28, led the National League in hits (181) for a second consecutive year in 2025 and posted the lowest strikeout rate (3.1%) and best contact rate (94.7%) in MLB for a fourth straight season. The infielder appeared in a career-best 154 games with San Diego in 2025 and hit .292 with 30 doubles, four triples, eight homers, 61 RBI and a career-best 11 stolen bases. His 181 hits were tied with Bo Bichette for second-most in the Majors, trailing only Bobby Witt Jr. (184), while his 19 three-hit games ranked third in

MLB behind Francisco Lindor and Trea Turner (20 three-hit games apiece). In 2024, Arráez became the only player in Major League history to win three consecutive batting titles with three different teams after winning the award with Minnesota (2022), Miami (2023) and San Diego (2024). The San Felipe, Venezuela native was named an All-Star in 2022, 2023 and 2024, and received Silver Slugger honors in 2022 with Minnesota (utility) and 2023 with Miami (second base).

Originally signed by Minnesota in 2013 at the age of 16, Arráez has played seven years in the Majors with the Twins (2019-2022), Marlins (2023-2024) and Padres (2024-2025). He is a career .317 hitter with a .363 on-base percentage, 436 runs scored, 169 doubles, 36 home runs, 308 RBI and a .776 OPS in 840 games.

Since his rookie campaign in 2019, Arráez boasts a Major League-best 6.1% strikeout rate while also leading the Majors with a .317 batting average and 92.5% contact rate in that span. His 97 games with three or more hits since 2019 are tied with Freddie Freeman for most in the Majors. Additionally, Arráez’s .317 career average is highest among active players in MLB and third-highest since 2000 (min., 3,000 PA).

Arráez has been selected as his team’s Heart & Hustle Award winner in three of the past four seasons for three different organizations with San Diego (2025), Miami (2023) and Minnesota (2022). The award is given to a player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.
