Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation to host skills clinic presented by WSS with Nike RBI Ambassador and Dodgers outfielder Jason Heyward
LOS ANGELES (September 21, 2023) – As part of its commitment to sports-based youth development, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) will host its 11th Skills Training Clinic of the season, presented by WSS, on Saturday, Sept. 23, on the Dodgers Dreamfield at Jesse Owens Park in South Los Angeles from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Dodgers Outfielder and Nike RBI Ambassador Jason Heyward will be on hand to engage with the 100 participants. Each participant will receive a custom Nike shirt provided by the Nike X MLB Youth and Community Experience.
In 2023, Dodgers Dreamteam, an affiliate of Nike RBI, entered its 10th year, coinciding with LADF’s ’10 Years Reimagined’ – a celebration of the organization providing essential support, services, and programs to improve education, health care, homelessness, and social justice for all Angelenos. LADF was reimagined in 2013 by the Los Angeles Dodgers Ownership Group, under the leadership of Owner and Chairman Mark Walter, with a vision to make the organization bigger than baseball.
Over the past ten years, the Dodgers Dreamteam program has grown significantly, starting with just four Affiliate Partners in its first year and now boasting an impressive 14 Affiliate Partners. These Affiliate Partners encompass municipal agencies and nonprofit organizations, with the latest addition being Miracle League Los Angeles, dedicated to serving children with special needs. This year, the program reached 11,000 youth across 80 different locations, with a goal of 25,000 annually by 2030.
“Reflecting on the past decade, I am proud of what the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation has accomplished with Dodgers Dreamteam and the positive impact this program continues to have across greater Los Angeles,” said Nichol Whiteman, CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. “We have redefined how a professional sports foundation weaves itself into the fabric of the community and provides intentional baseball and softball skills programming with neighborhood resource events that steward the next generation of Angelenos.”
This year's Dodgers Dreamteam program featured a diverse range of activations, including 13 Coaches Trainings conducted in collaboration with Nike, 13 Skills Training Clinics presented by WSS, 9 College and Career Accelerators, 7 Dodger Days presented by Arco and WSS, 4 Player Development Trainings offered by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and in partnership with Nike, the Nike RBI Regional and World Series Tournaments, Coach of the Year recognitions presented by Nike, PlayerFest presented by Bank of America, and the Recycle Challenge presented by LA County Department of Public Works. New to the program this year was the opportunity for Dodgers Dreamteam participants to apply for the LADF Legacy Scholarship, resulting in the selection of two recipients for the 2023 scholarship.
