Nationals announce roster moves, Aug. 30, 2019

The Washington Nationals made the following roster moves on Friday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

• Reinstated left-handed pitcher Roenis Elías from the 10-day Injured List

• Reinstated right-handed pitcher Hunter Strickland from the Paternity List

• Designated left-handed pitcher Matt Grace for assignment

• Optioned catcher Spencer Kieboom to Double-A Harrisburg

Elías, 31, returns to the active roster after being placed on the 10-day Injured List with a right hamstring strain on Aug. 4. He appeared in one game (0.2 IP) out of the Nationals’ bullpen, recording one hold and one strikeout on Aug. 2. Elías joined the Nationals after going 4-2 with 14 saves, a 4.40 ERA (23 ER/47.0 IP) and 45 strikeouts in 44 games for the Seattle Mariners in 2019.

Strickland, 30, is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA (2 ER/11.0 IP) in 11 games for the Nationals since being acquired at the trade deadline. He struck out eight batters, issued just two walks and held opposing batters to a .162 batting average (6-for-37), across the 11 appearances.

Grace, 30, went 5-4 with two saves and a 4.29 ERA (84 ER/176.1 IP) in 178 career games for the Nationals.

Kieboom, 28, did not appear in a game during this stint with the Nationals.
