Red Sox Agree to One-Year Contract with LHP Danny Coulombe

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today signed left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe to a one-year contract for the 2026 season. To make room on the 40-man roster, Boston placed infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez on the 60-Day Injured List.

Coulombe, 36, posted a 2.30 ERA (11 ER/43.0 IP) and .205 opponent batting average (32-for-156) over 55 games (one start) during 2025 with the Minnesota Twins (40 games, one start) and Texas Rangers (15 games). He held right-handed hitters to a .188 batting average and .614 OPS (16-for-85, two doubles, three home runs), while holding left-handed hitters to a .225 average and .527 OPS (16-for-71, two doubles). Over his first 45 games, through August 11, the left-hander went 2-0 with two saves, a 1.01 ERA (4 ER/35.2 IP), and a .183 opponent batting average (23-for-126).

Since the start of 2022, Coulombe’s 2.38 ERA (36 ER/136.1 IP) is the lowest mark in the Majors among left-handed pitchers (min. 100.0 IP). Originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 25th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the Missouri native owns a 3.35 ERA (118 ER/316.2 IP) in 343 career Major League games (two starts) with the Dodgers (2014-15), Athletics (2015-18), Twins (2020-21, 2025), Baltimore Orioles (2023-24), and Rangers (2025). In three career Postseason games, all with the Orioles (2023-24), he has allowed one hit over 1.2 scoreless innings.

Gonzalez, 29, hit .305 (96-for-315) with 23 doubles, nine home runs, 47 runs scored, 53 RBI, and an .826 OPS in 96 games for Boston in 2025, each career-best marks. Originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 18th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has batted .269 (200-for-744) with 44 doubles, 20 home runs, and 109 RBI in 271 career games with the White Sox (2021-23) and Red Sox (2024-25).
