Nolan Arenado wins seventh consecutive Gold Glove Award
Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has been named the winner of the 2019 Rawlings Gold Glove Award for National League third basemen for the seventh consecutive season. His seven total Gold Gloves are the fourth-most by a third baseman in Major League history, trailing Brooks Robinson (16), Mike Schmidt (10) and Scott Rolen (8).
Arenado led National League third basemen in fielding percentage (.980), total chances (457), putouts (111), assists (337), double plays (43), zone rating (.827), ultimate zone rating (10.3) and defensive runs above average (12.5).
- He joins Schmidt and Robinson as the only third basemen to win at least seven consecutive Gold Glove Awards. Robinson won 16 consecutive awards from 1960-1975 and Schmidt won nine straight from 1976-1984.
- Arenado is the 16th infielder (1B, 2B, 3B, SS) to win at least seven Gold Gloves Awards and the ninth infielder to win at least seven consecutive Gold Gloves (sixth in the National League). The last infielder to win seven straight awards was Omar Vizquel, who won nine consecutive wards at shortstop in the American League from 1993-2001. The last National League player to win seven consecutive Gold Gloves was Ryne Sandberg, who won nine straight awards at second base from 1983-1991.
- Arenado's streak of seven consecutive Gold Gloves to begin his career is the second-longest streak in Major League history, trailing Ichiro Suzuki's streak of 10-straight Gold Gloves to begin his Major League career.
- His Gold Glove streak is the longest active streak in the Major Leagues, the longest since Yadier Molina won eight straight from 2008-2015.
- His seven Gold Gloves are the most in franchise history. Larry Walker held the previous franchise record with five Gold Gloves.
Following today’s announcement, voting for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award will begin online at www.rawlings.com. The voting will open at 6 p.m. MST and will remain open through November 7. Fans will be able to select one player among the 2019 Rawlings Gold Glove winners from each league. Arenado has been named the National League’s Platinum Glove Award Winner in each of the past two seasons.
