Padres Holiday Giving Tour presented by Gallagher returns in 2020
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres announced today the return of their annual holiday tour as part of their Holiday Giving tradition. Throughout the month of December, the Padres will support various organizations and participate in a number of different community events throughout San Diego County and the Baja region. Padres players, alumni, executives, staff and broadcasters, along with the Swingin’ Friar and the Padres Volunteer Team, will help spread the holiday cheer through virtual or socially distanced settings this year.
The Padres Holiday Giving Tour presented by Gallagher began with the organization’s annual Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution on Monday, November 23 where executives and volunteers from the Padres front office distributed turkeys and traditional sides to more than 600 families in need. Padres infielder and Rookie of the Year finalist Jake Cronenworth also participated in an online gaming event on Giving Tuesday (Tuesday, December 1) in support of the Ronald McDonald House’s #FilltheFridge campaign.
Upcoming events include the organization’s participation in the annual drive-thru diaper drive benefitting the San Diego Food Bank on December 9 followed by a Padres player or broadcaster reading a holiday book to local families through a virtual story time in partnership with the San Diego Central library on December 10. The team will also participate in the Rock Church’s Toys for Joy event on December 12 by donating 200 whiffle ball & bat sets before assisting the Bomberos de San Diego firefighters organization with their annual turkey distribution in San Ysidro on December 19.
The holiday tour will also make an impact south of the border as the Padres are partnering with the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego to donate toys to children in need during this holiday season. Also, the four winners of the annual Padres Comunidad Awards will be named and recognized as part of a virtual ceremony. The Comunidad Awards honor those making a positive impact within the region’s Hispanic community in the areas of LIVE, LEARN, PLAY and SERVE.
Other events and organizations that will be touched during the holiday tour include weekly grocery deliveries to high-risk cancer patients in San Diego in partnership with Groceries4Good, teaming up with Jewish Family Services to provide meals to families in need, donating toys to Operation Homefront for distribution and a Padres player will record a special holiday message for patients staying at Rady Children’s Hospital over the holidays.
The Padres will shoot and distribute footage to media of select events throughout the course of the Holiday Giving Tour presented by Gallagher.
