Pirates celebrate First Responders Days this week

The Pittsburgh Pirates, in partnership with Guardian Protection, are honoring first responders throughout the area this week with First Responders Appreciation Days, scheduled for Today through Thursday, July 29 at PNC Park.

The week is an opportunity to highlight these community heroes and the important work they are doing with pregame on-field ceremonies, in-game recognition and more.

Together the two partners distributed more than 3,000 complimentary tickets to area first responders as a thank you for their hard work and dedication. Prior to today’s game, Pirates manager Derek Shelton was joined by right-handed pitcher and Mars area native, David Bednar for visits of local fire stations. The two Pirates were joined by the Pirate Parrot for a morning of delivering tickets, pastries from Priory Pastry and more.

The group visited the Adams Area Fire District, the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Station 20. This past weekend, Fire Station 20 lost one of their members Lee Weber in a tragic accident. Pirates representatives took time to visit with the Fire Station and show their support. Tonight, the Pirates honored Weber with a pregame moment of silence and encourage all fans to donate, if they can, to the Go Fund Me set up in support of the Weber family.

Throughout the week, all first responders will be special guests of the Pirates and Guardian as all first responders and their families can take advantage of a special ticket discount for First Responders Appreciation games.
