Rangers announce 2022 Opening Day roster

Toronto — The Texas Rangers today announced several transactions to set the club’s 28-man Opening Day roster ahead of Thursday’s 11:00 a.m. CT deadline:

The Rangers’ season opener is Friday at 6:37 p.m. CT against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto. The first date Richards would be eligible to be activated from the Injured List is April 14. The Rangers have seven days to trade, release, or outright Apostel to the minor leagues.

Espinal has been assigned to the Arizona Complex League Rangers. The 19-year-old has a career slash line of .303/.376/.397/.773 over two professional seasons in the Diamondbacks system since signing with the club on July 2, 2018. The left-handed batter and thrower saw his first stateside action in 2021, batting .259 with 2 home runs and 23 RBI over 62 games for the Arizona Complex League Diamondbacks (Rookie) and Visalia (A).

Hernandez appeared in 44 games for the Rangers last season in his Major League debut. He was originally signed by Texas as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2014.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers are at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with two players (Jonathan Hernández and José Leclerc) on the 60-day Injured List.
