Rangers Place Shortstop Corey Seager on 7-Day Injured List, Activate Infielder Josh Smith from Injured List
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to tonight’s series opener against the Minnesota Twins at Globe Life Field.
- Shortstop Corey Seager placed on 7-day Injured List (concussion), retroactive to June 12
- Infielder Josh Smith activated from 10-day Injured List
Seager, 32, did not appear in the Rangers’ last 3 games after colliding with Royals catcher Carter Jensen during the 1st inning of Texas’ win on Thursday at Kansas City. The shortstop had appeared in 5 games since being activated from the 10-day Injured List on June 4, going 5-for-21 (.238) with 2 home runs and 4 RBI in that span. In 47 games for Texas this season, Seager is batting .186 (33-177) with 9 home runs, the 2nd-most homers by a Ranger in 2026. The first date Seager is eligible to be activated is Friday, June 19.
The 28-year-old Smith missed Texas’ last 37 games after he was originally placed on the 10-day Injured List on May 5 (retroactive to May 4) with a right glute strain, while also dealing with left wrist inflammation and symptoms from viral meningitis. He appeared in 8 games on rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, combining to bat .250 (7-28) with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, and 7 RBI. Across 31 games for the Rangers in 2026, Smith has batted .217 (20-92) with 2 doubles and 6 RBI.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with four players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP Carter Baumler and LHP’s Cody Bradford, Robert Garcia, and Jordan Montgomery).
