Red Sox select right-handed pitcher Jake Faria from Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today selected right-handed pitcher Jake Faria to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Faria, the club designated right-handed pitcher Tayler Scott for assignment.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Faria, 29, has pitched in 19 games (nine starts) for Worcester this season, posting a 6.47 ERA (40 ER/55.2 IP). The right-hander was previously selected to the active Major League roster on April 16, but did not appear in a game for Boston. The California native owns a 4.70 ERA (106 ER/203.0 IP) in 72 career Major League games (29 starts) for the Tampa Bay Rays (2017-19), Milwaukee Brewers (2019), and Arizona Diamondbacks (2021).
Scott, 31, allowed two runs over 1.0 inning in yesterday’s game against the Chicago Cubs. The right-hander has pitched in four games (one start) for Boston, allowing three runs (two earned) in 3.2 innings. The Johannesburg native has posted a 10.18 ERA (43 ER/38.0 IP) in 31 career Major League outings (three starts) with the Seattle Mariners (2019), Baltimore Orioles (2019), San Diego Padres (2022), Los Angeles Dodgers (2023), and Red Sox (2023).
