Washington Nationals Announce Legendary Alex Ovechkin Bobblehead Giveaway

3:00 PM UTC

On Saturday, June 9, 2018, hockey legend Alex Ovechkin walked up the dugout steps at Nationals Park toward the pitcher’s mound. Donning a cap and white Nationals home jersey, he hoisted the iconic 35-pound silver trophy in the air for the crowd of 37,701 cheering fans, before throwing the game’s ceremonial first pitch (or two). Now, that moment on the mound will be commemorated with a bobblehead giveaway for 20,000 fans at the Nationals ‘Beltway Series’ game against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, May 16. To purchase tickets, visit Nationals.com/Tickets.

The pregame celebration of Washington, D.C.’s beloved hockey team continued with the southpaw’s first pitch, which sailed a bit too high. But, as the crowd chanted his iconic “Ovi!” moniker, his second shot landed right on target, just like the signature shot from Ovi’s office.

The “Great 8” has played his entire 21-year career in D.C. and helped bring the city its first-ever hockey championship in 2018, cementing his status as a true hometown hero among fans. Ovechkin has thrown the ceremonial first pitch at Nationals Park three times to date, including before Game 4 of the 2019 National League Division Series.

The Alex Ovechkin bobblehead rounds out the Nationals giveaway schedule, along with more than 50 special ticket event packages that include exclusive giveaways. To purchase tickets and claim a piece of Nationals history, visit Nationals.com/Tickets.
