Red Sox sign two additional players selected in 2020 June Draft

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today signed two players selected in the 2020 MLB First-Year Player Draft: third baseman Blaze Jordan (3rd round) and left-handed pitcher Shane Drohan (5th round).

Red Sox Director of Amateur Scouting Paul Toboni made the announcement.

The Red Sox have now signed all four of their selections in the 2020 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Jordan was selected out of DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, MS, and ranked by Baseball America as the No. 90 prospect in this year’s draft. He was named the 2019-20 Gatorade Mississippi Baseball Player of the Year after batting .422 (19-for-45) with six doubles, five triples, four RBI, and 14 runs scored in 13 games this season. The six-foot-two, 220-pound right-handed hitter was a two-time First Team All-State selection, batting .440 (131-for-298) with a 1.308 OPS, 33 doubles, six triples, 19 home runs and 98 RBI in 100 games during his four-year varsity career, helping lead DeSoto Central to a 34-3 record and state championship in 2019. He also won the 2019 High School Home Run Derby at Progressive Field in Cleveland during MLB All-Star Week.

Drohan, the club’s final selection in the 2020 draft, is a six-foot-three, 195-pound left-hander out of Florida State University. He made four starts this season, posting a 4.08 ERA (8 ER/17.2 IP) with 27 strikeouts. Over 26 career outings (15 starts) during his three-year career at Florida State, the West Palm Beach, FL, native went 4-2 with a 4.76 ERA (39 ER/73.2 IP) and 99 strikeouts. Selected in the 23rd round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies, Drohan also pitched for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2019. His father, Bill Drohan, pitched within the Kansas City Royals system for four seasons from 1987-90.
