Robert Gasser named International League Pitcher of the Year

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee Brewers prospect and Triple-A Nashville left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser today was named International League Pitcher of the Year by Minor League Baseball. The award was voted on by league managers, and final decisions were determined by the Commissioner’s Office.

Gasser is the sixth member of the Sounds to earn Pitcher of the Year, joining Chris Hammond (1990), Scott Ruffcorn (1994), R.A. Dickey (2007), Johnny Hellweg (2013) and Jimmy Nelson (2014). The 24-year-old is the first Nashville pitcher to win in the International League.

The Brewers took home the Pitcher of the Year award at each of their top two affiliates, as Carlos Rodríguez was named Southern League Pitcher of the Year at Double-A Biloxi.

Gasser went 9-1 with a 3.79 ERA and 166 strikeouts in 135.1 innings over 26 appearances/25 starts for Nashville in 2023. He is ranked as Milwaukee’s No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline.

Acquired from San Diego in the Josh Hader trade in August of 2022, Gasser led all of Triple-A in strikeouts (166). He ranked among International League leaders in ERA (2nd, 3.79), opponent batting average (3rd, .236), WHIP (3rd, 1.28), wins (T3rd, 9), starts (T4th, 25) and innings (5th, 135.1).

In addition to being named Pitcher of the Year, Gasser earned International League postseason All-Star honors.
