Twins release 2023 schedule
MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, today announced their preliminary schedule for the 2023 regular season. The club’s 63rd campaign in Twins Territory will be the first in which Minnesota plays each of the other 29 teams at least once, as MLB debuts a new scheduling format.
The Twins begin next season on the road, playing an Opening Day game on Thursday, March 30 at the Kansas City Royals – the club’s first season opener at Kauffman Stadium since 2002 and fifth time overall opening against the Royals. That contest will start a six-game, two-city road trip that also takes the Twins to Miami for the first time since 2019, for a three-game set with the Marlins. Minnesota will host Houston at Target Field on Thursday, April 6 for the Twins’ first-ever Home Opener against the Astros, part of a six-game, seven-day homestand that also features the Chicago White Sox.
Minnesota’s 2023 Interleague home slate includes Target Field visits from the Washington Nationals (April 21-23), San Diego Padres (May 9-11), Chicago Cubs (May 12-14), San Francisco Giants (May 22-24), Arizona Diamondbacks (August 4-6), Pittsburgh Pirates (August 18-20) and New York Mets (September 8-10). Following the April 3-5 stop in Miami, the Twins will also play at the Los Angeles Dodgers (May 15-17), Atlanta Braves (June 26-28), St. Louis Cardinals (August 1-3), Philadelphia Phillies (August 11-13), Cincinnati Reds (September 18-20) and Colorado Rockies (season-ending, 3-game series from September 29 through October 1). The Twins and Milwaukee Brewers will maintain their home-and-home Border Battle rivalry series, with two-game sets at Target Field (June 13-14) and American Family Field (August 22-23).
The Twins’ 2023 schedule features 16 home games in the month of April, 12 in May, 14 in June, 12 in July, 15 in August and 12 in September. Minnesota will host 41 of their 81 home games between Memorial Day (May 29) and Labor Day (September 4). For the second consecutive season, all Twins weekday (Monday-Thursday) night games throughout the entire season will have a 6:40 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
Minnesota will play each of their American League Central division rivals 13 times apiece (down from the 19 games of recent seasons): the Chicago White Sox (6 home / 7 away), Cleveland Guardians (7 home / 6 away), Detroit Tigers (6 home / 7 away) and Kansas City Royals (7 home / 6 away). The Twins face each AL Central division team for two series apiece at home and on the road.
Notables
- The Twins’ March 30 Opening Day game will mark their fifth opener in March, following 2019 (March 28 vs. Cleveland), 2018 (March 29 at Baltimore), 2008 (March 31 vs. Los Angeles-AL) and 2003 (March 31 at Detroit).
- The following teams will make their first visit to Target Field this decade: Arizona (last in 2017), New York-NL (last in 2019), San Diego (last in 2017) and Washington (last in 2019).
- The Twins will travel to the following cities for the first time this decade: Atlanta (last in 2016; this is Minnesota’s first visit to Truist Park), Colorado (last in 2014), Miami (last in 2019) and Philadelphia (last in 2019).
