Lehigh Valley infielder Will Toffey and Reading right-hander Griff McGarry have been named Phillies Minor League Hitter and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for June.

Toffey, 27, posted a .338/.459/.632 slash line (1.091 OPS), going 23-for-68 with 11 doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI, nine runs and 13 walks in 21 games with triple-A Lehigh Valley during June. He collected multiple hits in nine of those 21 contests. He led the International League with 11 doubles and his 1.091 OPS ranked third in the league among players with at least 80 plate appearances last month. The left-handed hitter entered today with a .264/.395/.466 slash line (.861 OPS) in 51 games with the IronPigs in 2022 and his 18 doubles ranked tied for sixth in the league. A Massachusetts native, Toffey was acquired by the Phillies in a trade with the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Luke Williams on March 27 of this year. He was originally selected by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB draft out of Vanderbilt University.

The 23-year-old McGarry struck out 48 of the 116 batters he faced (41.4%) while posting a 2.86 ERA (9 ER, 28.1 IP) in five starts with high-A Jersey Shore in June. He also posted a 1.13 WHIP and limited opponents to a .184 batting average (18-98) last month. The right-hander recorded double-digit strikeouts in each of his final three outings in June, including a season-high 13 strikeouts over 5.1 innings on June 22 at Brooklyn. McGarry combined for 34 strikeouts over 17.1 innings in those final three starts (6/15-29). Additionally, his 48 strikeouts last month led the South Atlantic League. McGarry, who earlier today was promoted to double-A Reading, averaged 15.81 SO/9.0 IP (82 SO, 46.2 IP) in 12 starts with Jersey Shore this season. The California native was selected by the Phillies in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB draft out of the University of Virginia.
