Rangers recall RHP Nick Martinez, RHP A.J. Griffin placed on 10-day DL
Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers tonight announced that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Nick Martinez (#22) from Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers have also placed right-handed pitcher A.J. Griffin on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 18, with gout in his left ankle.
Martinez, 26, will be in his 2nd stint with the Rangers this season, as he was also in the bullpen from April 12-14, but did not have an appearance with Texas in that span. He has spent most of this month with Triple-A Round Rock, going 1-0 with a 5.00 ERA (5 ER/9.0 IP) in 2 games/starts, last pitching on Monday at Iowa. Martinez had 6 G/5 GS with Texas this spring before he was optioned to Round Rock on March 29.
Griffin has gone 2-0 with a 4.11 ERA (7 ER/15.1 IP) in 3 starts for the Rangers this season. He last pitched on Monday in Oakland. The first day he would be eligible to return would be April 28.
