Red Sox announce roster moves
Prior to tonight's game against the Baltimore Orioles, the Boston Red Sox made the following roster moves:

Hernandez, 24, left last night's game against the Orioles in the top of the first inning after starting at third base. After entering the 2017 season ranked by Baseball America as the Red Sox' No. 8 prospect, the left-handed hitter has played 21 games for Boston this season, going 16-for-58 (.276) with seven runs, three doubles, and two RBI while appearing defensively at third base (nine starts), shortstop (five starts), and second base (four starts). In 22 Grapefruit League games this spring, he batted .377 (23-for-61) with a 1.105 OPS and led the club in doubles (8) and triples (5). Acquired via trade from the Chicago Cubs in 2014, the Dominican Republic native has hit .284 (31-for-109) with 18 runs scored, four doubles, one home run, and seven RBI over two major league seasons with Boston (2016-17).
Kendrick, 32, is 1-3 with a 6.00 ERA (18 ER/27.0 IP) in four starts for the PawSox this season. He most recently pitched on April 28 against Gwinnett, earning a win and allowing only one hit in 7.0 shutout innings. The right-hander has not surrendered a run in his last 11.0 innings pitched, with opponents going 4-for-35 (.114) against him in that time. Kendrick has made 212 starts and 41 relief appearances at the major league level, going 81-81 with a 4.63 ERA (659 ER/1,281.0 IP) between the Philadelphia Phillies (2007-14) and Colorado Rockies (2015). His only career appearance at Fenway Park came on June 11, 2010, when he pitched two shutout innings in a 12-2 Phillies loss. Tonight will mark his first time ever facing the Orioles.
Thornburg, 28, began the 2017 season on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder impingement. Acquired from Milwaukee on December 6, 2016, the right-hander set career highs for the Brewers in 2016 with 67 appearances, 67.0 innings pitched, eight wins, 13 saves, and 90 strikeouts. He became Milwaukee's full-time closer on August 1, and in 23 games after that date he went 4-1 with 11 saves and a 1.85 ERA (5 ER/24.1 IP). From May 19-June 7, Thornburg retired 26 consecutive hitters, setting a Brewers franchise record for relievers. Originally selected by Milwaukee in the third round of the 2010 June Draft, Thornburg has made 144 appearances (10 starts) over parts of five major league seasons (2012-16), posting a 14-9 record and a 2.87 ERA with 220 strikeouts and 91 walks in 219.2 innings.
