Reds, Raisel Iglesias Agree On 3-Year Deal

The Cincinnati Reds and RHP Raisel Iglesias have agreed to terms on a 3-year contract through the 2021 season.
In June 2014, Iglesias was signed by the Reds to a 7-year contract through the 2020 season. That contract included provisions that allowed him to opt into arbitration following the 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons.
"Raisel has been extremely reliable in our bullpen. He has also proven to be a very versatile pitcher, which we value highly," said Reds President of Baseball Operations Dick Williams. "This contract provides both sides with cost certainty and will allow David and Derek to focus on how Raisel can be utilized to provide the most value to the team."
Iglesias said, "This is a great opportunity. I thank the Reds for trusting me and believing in me. Cincinnati is my second home, and I wanted to take this step."
Iglesias, 28, has posted a 2.97 ERA in 184 career appearances with 64 saves in 72 chances (89%). Following the 2017 season, he received the Johnny Vander Meer Award as the Reds' Most Outstanding Pitcher in voting of the Cincinnati chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. He is 1 of only 6 Reds pitchers to record at least 28 saves in more than 1 season, and over the last 3 seasons Iglesias' 24 saves of more than 1.0 inning are the most by any reliever in the Major Leagues.
In 2018, Iglesias over 66 appearances produced a 2.38 ERA and a career-high 30 saves in 34 chances. He was 1 of only 11 pitchers in the Major Leagues with at least 30 saves and among the National League pitching leaders ranked fifth in both saves and games finished (57). The Reds went 42-24 in games in which he pitched, the staff's best winning percentage (.636).
Also last season, Iglesias pitched 18 times on consecutive days, tying Jared Hughes for the most on the staff, and a team-high 5 times pitched on 3 consecutive days.
