Rougned Odor named American League Player of the Week presented by W.B. Mason

Second baseman Rougned Odor of the Texas Rangers has been named the American League Player of the Week presented by W.B. Mason for the period ending July 22nd. The announcement was made Monday on MLB Network.
Odor hit .615 (8-for-13) with two runs scored, a home run, three RBI and three stolen bases across three games played to earn his third career AL Player of the Week Award, previously winning for the period ending September 4, 2016. Among qualified AL leaders, Rougned finished the week first in hits and stolen bases; second in batting average and total bases (11); seventh in on-base percentage (.571); and eighth in slugging percentage (.846). This is Texas' first weekly award of the 2018 season, and the first since four-time All-Star Adrián Beltré last season for the period ending July 30th.
Since the calendar flipped to July, Odor has enjoyed his best month of the season at the plate. Over 16 games played, the Venezuelan native has posted a .364/.438/.582 slash line with eight runs scored, 20 hits, three doubles, three home runs, eight RBI and five stolen bases. The 24-year-old has posted a pair of three-hit games since the 2018 Midsummer Classic in Washington D.C., as well as multi-hit efforts in each of his three games since the break. In Sunday afternoon's home tilt against the Cleveland Indians at Globe Life Park, the left-handed-hitting second baseman batted 3-for-3 with a stolen base, three RBI and his seventh round-tripper of the season to lead the Rangers to a 5-0 victory. Following the performance, Odor, who signed with Texas as a free agent in January 2011, became the second player in the Majors this season to record a streak of three games in which he tallied at least two hits and one stolen base, joining All-Star Lorenzo Cain of the Milwaukee Brewers (March 29th-31st). Additionally, the five-year veteran became just the fifth player in Club history to accomplish the feat, joining Ian Kinsler (June 16-18, 2012), Josh Hamilton (July 10-12, 2008), Juan Beniquez (July 5-7, 1977) and Hank Allen (April 22-25, 1969).
Other noteworthy performances last week included first baseman Ryon Healy (.429, 2 R, 2 HR, 7 RBI) of the Seattle Mariners; outfielder Randal Grichuk (.333, 3 R, 2 2B, 2 HR) of the Toronto Blue Jays; 2018 All-Stars George Springer (.400, 3 R, 2 XBH, 6 RBI) and Justin Verlander (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 6.0 IP, 11 SO) of the Houston Astros; first baseman Lucas Duda (.500, 3 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI) of the Kansas City Royals; outfielder Mallex Smith (.400, 2 3B, 4 RBI, 1 SB) of the Tampa Bay Rays; and starter Dylan Covey (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 8.1 IP, 5 SO) of the Chicago White Sox.
In recognition of his American League Player of the Week Award, Rougned Odor will be awarded a watch courtesy of Rockwell.
