Texas Rangers acquire outfielder Hunter Cole from San Francisco

The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has acquired outfielder Hunter Cole from San Francisco as the player to be named later in a June 6 trade that sent right-handed pitcher Sam Dyson to the Giants. Cole has been assigned to the Triple-A Round Rock roster of the Pacific Coast League.
Cole, 25, has spent the last two seasons with the Richmond Flying Squirrels in the Double-A Eastern League, where he batted .249/.323/.431/.753 with 7 home runs and 34 RBI over 83 games in 2017. The right-handed batter spent time on the disabled list last season with a right oblique injury, and hit .307 (35-114) with an .892 OPS figure over his final 33 games after returning to the active roster in late July. The South Carolina native was a 26th round selection in 2014 out of the University of Georgia, where he was a third baseman. He has played exclusively in right field the past two seasons after previously seeing pro action as an infielder.
