Twins acquire Light from Red Sox in exchange for Abad

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Pat Light from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for left-handed pitcher Fernando Abad.
Light, 25, was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the Compensation A round (37th overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Monmouth University. The Colts Neck, NJ native has a record of 1-1, 2.32 ERA (31.0 IP, 8 ER) with 17 walks and 36 strikeouts in 25 appearances with Triple-A Pawtucket this season. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Light has a career record of 13-18 with a 4.40 ERA (290.2 IP, 142 ER), 112 walks and 240 strikeouts in 122 career minor league appearances (49 starts). Additionally, he has made two career appearances with the Red Sox. Light was selected by the Twins in the 28th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign.
Abad appeared in 39 games for the Twins this season, going 1-4 with one save, six holds, a 2.65 ERA (34.0 IP, 10 ER), 14 walks and 29 strikeouts. He was signed by the Twins as a minor league free agent December 16, 2015 and was added to the Twins Opening Day roster.
To replace Abad on the 25-man roster, the Twins have recalled right-handed pitcher Jose Berrios from Triple-A Rochester. Berrios has gone 10-5 with a 2.44 ERA (103.1 IP, 28 ER), 35 walks and 111 strikeouts in 16 starts for the Red Wings this season, including a record of 5-2 with a 1.45 ERA (49.2 IP, 8 ER) in his last 10 starts. The 22-year-old made four starts for the Twins earlier this season, going 1-1 with a 10.20 ERA (15.0 IP, 17 ER). He is scheduled to start for the Twins tonight in Cleveland.
