Twins Name Derek Shelton Bench Coach

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have named Derek Shelton as Bench Coach.
Shelton, 47, most recently served as quality control coach for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017. The 2018 season will mark Shelton's 14th as a coach in some capacity at the major league level. He previously served as the Tampa Bay Rays hitting coach from 2010-16 under Joe Maddon, and Cleveland Indians hitting coach from 2005-09 under Eric Wedge.
The Carbondale, IL native began his coaching career in the New York (AL) organization in 1997 and held various coaching positions in the Yankees minor league system including manager of the GCL Yankees (2000-01) and Short-A Staten Island (2002). Shelton also served as the hitting coach for the 2011 MLB All-Star team that played five games against the Chinese Taipei National Team in Taiwan.
The former catcher played two minor league seasons in the New York Yankees organization from 1992-93, hitting .341 with eight doubles, one home run and 19 RBI until elbow surgery following the 1993 season ended his career.
