White Sox add Thyago Vieira from Triple-A Charlotte

The Chicago White Sox have added right-handed pitcher Thyago Vieira "tea-AH-go vee-AIR-uh" from Class AAA Charlotte to serve as the 26th man on the active roster for the second game of Friday's doubleheader vs. Oakland.
Vieira, 25, is 0-2 with a 4.40 ERA (15 ER/30.2 IP), 42 strikeouts and four saves in 26 relief appearances with Class AAA Charlotte this season. He owns a 1.69 ERA (2 ER/10.2 IP) over his last nine outings.The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Vieira has limited opponents to a .219 (25-114) average, including a .182 (12-66) mark by right-handers, and has averaged 12.3 strikeouts per 9.0 IP.
A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Vieira was acquired by the White Sox from Seattle on November 16, 2017 in exchange for international signing pool money.
He has gone 14-21 with a 4.56 ERA (163 ER/321.2 IP) and 280 strikeouts in 175 games (28 starts) over eight minor-league seasons. Vieira has made one major-league appearance, throwing 1.0 scoreless IP with the Mariners on August 14, 2017 vs. Baltimore.
Vieira, who will wear uniform No. 50, will join Andre Rienzo (2013-14) as the only natives of Brazil to play for the White Sox.
