Yankees Acquire Minor League Pitcher Reiver Sanmartin

The New York Yankees today announced that they acquired minor league left-handed pitcher Reiver Sanmartin from Texas in exchange for right-handed pitcher Ronald Herrera.
Sanmartin, 21, was originally signed by the Rangers as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2015. The Cartagena, Colombia, native split the 2017 season between short-season Single-A Spokane and Single-A Hickory, combining to go 7-2 with a 2.45 ERA (66.0IP, 18ER) in 14 games (11 starts). He posted a 6.22 strikeout/walk ratio, recording 56K with only 9BB. In three minor league seasons, he is 14-4 with a 2.62 ERA (137.2IP, 40ER) in 32 games (23 starts).
Herrera, 22, was originally signed by Oakland as a non-drafted free agent on December 11, 2011. He was acquired by the Yankees from San Diego in exchange for INF José Pirela on November 11, 2015. Herrera made his Major League debut with the Yankees in 2017, going 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA (3.0IP, 2ER) in two relief appearances with the club. Over six minor league seasons, he has gone 41-33 with a 3.60 ERA (627.2IP, 251ER) in 120 games (112 starts).
