Yankees acquire SS Adeiny Hechavarria from Pittsburgh

The Yankees acquired SS Adeiny Hechavarria and cash considerations from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Hechavarria, 29, is batting .254 (66-for-260) with 31R, 11 doubles, 4HR and 29RBI in 76 combined games with Tampa Bay (61G) and Pittsburgh (15G) this season.

Over a seven-year Major League career with Toronto (2012), Miami (2013-2017), Tampa Bay (2017-18) and Pittsburgh (2018), he owns a .255 (707-for-2,773) batting average with 267R, 101 doubles, 35 triples, 26HR and 236RBI in 793G. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Toronto in 2010, he has played in 766 Major League games at shortstop, 18G at third base and 8G at second base.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have designated LHP Ryan Bollinger for assignment.
