Mariners Notes:

  • The Mariners defeated the Padres by a 7-4 score in today’s Cactus League opener.
  • Today’s crowd of 9,956 is the largest crowd for a spring home opener in Mariners history.
  • It surpassed the 9,748 in attendance in Seattle’s spring opener in 2004 against Arizona.
  • Connor Joe supplied the go-ahead, 2-run single in the 7th inning to give Seattle a 5-3 lead, scoring Jonny Farmelo and Will Wilson.
  • Michael Arroyo hit a 2-run home run in the 2nd inning to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead.
  • The Arroyo blast was an opposite-field homer to right-center field.
  • Arroyo went 2-for-2 with the home run and a double.
  • Luke Raley went 2-for-2 out of the leadoff spot before being lifted for pinch-runner Farmelo.
  • Farmelo stole second base and scored on Josh Naylor’s two-out, RBI single.
  • Lazaro Montes came off the bench and singled off Padres pitcher Mason Miller.
  • Right fielder Dominic Canzone made a diving catch to end the 1st inning, stranding two baserunners. He robbed Jake Cronenworth of potential extra bases.
  • Second baseman Miles Mastrobuoni made a diving stop to retire Clay Dungan in the 6th inning.

  • The Padres fell to the Mariners by a 7-4 score in today’s Cactus League opener.
  • Romeo Sanabria belted a solo home run off Mariners reliever Troy Taylor in the 6th inning.
  • Left-hander Jagger Haynes went 2.0 innings in his start for San Diego.
  • All-Star reliever Mason Miller tossed a scoreless 5th inning, allowing a single to Mariners prospect Lazaro Montes.
  • Jose Miranda hit a 2-run homer off Alex Hoppe in the 7th inning.
