Marlins go deep twice, Astros rally late to tie

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Astros rallied from four down to tie it in the ninth inning on Tyler Heineman's RBI single off lefty Caleb Thielbar. After the Marlins were unable to score in the bottom half of the inning, the game ended in a 7-7 tie on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium.
The Marlins had claimed a 7-4 lead on Adeiny Hechavarría's three-run homer in the sixth inning and Tyler Moore's solo shot in the seventh. But in the ninth inning, the Astros' AJ Reed had an RBI double and J.D. Davis drove in another run with a single.

Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with a double. The Astros' third baseman will play one more game, on Monday, before exiting camp to play in the World Baseball Classic for Team USA.
In the fifth inning, Houston strung together three straight two-out hits off David Phelps to take a 3-2 lead. Alejandro Garcia singled, stole second and scored on Jake Marisnick's single to left. Bregman delivered a ground-rule double to left, which benefited Miami because Marisnick, who would have scored, went back to third. Phelps fanned Jose Altuve for the third out.

"A lot of little stuff today that you see in Spring Training," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "Our relievers all got dinged a little bit. It's good to see that [in terms of] we know what we've got to deal with. A little lackadaisical stuff today."
Martín Prado's two-run double in the third inning off Mike Fiers gave the Marlins a 2-1 lead. But in the fourth inning, the Astros pulled even on Yuli Gurriel's RBI single.

The Astros went up 1-0 in the third inning on Marisnick's RBI groundout to short. Teoscar Hernández, who singled to start the inning, scored.
"I worked on my curveball and slider a little bit," Fiers said. "I was a little erratic at times, but I felt good. It was a little sloppy early, but overall I got my work and got my pitches up into the third inning, and I just have to improve on that."

Marlins starter Wei-Yin Chen delivered two perfect innings, and reliever Brian Ellington struck out two in a scoreless frame.
Astros Up Next: Bregman will make his final start before leaving to join Team USA for the World Baseball Classic when the Astros meet the Red Sox at 12:05 p.m. CT Monday on Gameday Audio at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. Chris Devenski of the Astros will start against Chris Sale, who's making his debut for the Red Sox.
Marlins Up Next:Edinson Vólquez takes the mound at 1:05 p.m. ET Monday on Gameday Audio against the Mets. The right-hander will make his final start with the club for at least a little bit. He will be joining the Dominican Republic squad for the World Baseball Classic. Christian Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton are scheduled to start, and it will be their final appearances with Miami before they join Team USA. Left-hander Steven Matz will start for the Mets.
