Now that Leo De Vries has gotten back in gear this month, he's starting to turn it up a notch.
MLB’s No. 2 prospect connected on his second homer in as many nights in Double-A Midland's 9-5 loss to Amarillo on Thursday at HODGETOWN. It marked the first time this season De Vries has logged dingers in back-to-back games and pushed his June OPS to .955.
The eighth long ball of the year for the A's No. 1 prospect served as an exclamation point on a 2-for-4 night at the dish, his fifth multihit game of the month.
Hitting from the right side in the first inning, De Vries won a five-pitch battle with left-hander Adonys Perez (D-backs) and lined a double into the left-field corner and then swiped third. Batting right-handed, the 19-year-old is slashing .345/.449/.534 this season.
After a five-pitch walk in the second and grounding into a fielder's choice in the fourth, De Vries strode to the dish to lead off the seventh.
Flipping around to the left side to face right-hander Billy Corcoran, De Vries turned on a 1-0 breaking ball and belted it over the wall in right-center. Six of his eight dingers this year have come when De Vries has hit left-handed.
De Vries has compiled a slash line of .316/.429/.526 this month while continuing to flash impressive aspects of his profile beyond the penchant for power, like plate discipline and prowess on the bases.
In only 70 plate appearances in June, De Vries has already worked 12 free passes while striking out 14 times. That ties his previous single-month high of 12, which he accomplished in April and took 108 plate appearances to achieve.
On the basepaths, MLB's No. 2 shortstop prospect has remained aggressive, swiping six bags in June to raise his stolen-base total to 22. His previous career high was 13, set in 2024.
